Mike, I went to pull out the old thermostat and replace it with the 160 deg version that I purchased - found out the previous owner had removed the thermostatic valve. I assume that was done so the engine would run cooler - is there any issues with not installing the thermostat in the coolant system

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Alot of people dont have thermostats installed but I would recommend that you do.

At the beginning of the product video - what kind of paste is that? Thanks.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Just hi-temp automotive sealant.

Have a 1961 Willys wagon, looking for a thermostat with the jiggle pin. part # 812050-jp. can i run any other type besides the jiggle pin? Read that pin allows trapped air out, since the 6-226 has no bypass, there is the chance of overheating running other styles. Would like to stay original. Thanks, Ted

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Call me toll free and I can try to help you out on this.

is there a rubber o ring gasket that goes around the thermostat itself?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
There is just a thermostat housing gasket to the block.

Does this Thermostat come with the gasket?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
The gasket is a separate item.

I have the 134 flathead engine in my 46 cj2a and just did a complete rebuild. The diagrams and other information I have received shows the thermostat installed with the spring of the thermostat up into the thermostat housing. That goes against every thermostat I have ever replaced. The spring part of the thermostat always goes toward the engine block or in my case into the head. Am I correct or is something different on these Willy's engines? Thank you for clearing this up. L Conrady

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
The spring does go down I do believe. See our diagrams on our website. Make sure you have the retainer in place as well to hold it in place.

will 180 degree thermostat. be ok to use in my cj3a l-134 engine....?

Willys Tech:
Yes either the 180 or the 160 will work fine.

Her's my dumb question...On '46 CJ2A, does thermostat sit in housing with spring side down or up?

Willys Tech:
Spring goes down
