Typically no, but it never hurts to use sealant.

Questions: I could not start my GPW (later Willys L134 engine) so I installed the replacement fuel pump. Got it to run for a while (after priming the new Solex carb) off a small auxiliary fuel tank. However, when I connected the fuel line from the gas tank, would run for a few seconds from the priming, but then dies. I rodded out the fuel line (a while ago), fuel is fresh. What else needs to be done? I can't see any fuel in the glass bowl.

When you are cold starting you need to pump the pedal just a bit when starting - not enough to flood - and choke it. It should give you the prime you need.

The fuel pump arm rides on your lobe of your camshaft.

It will work but on the M38 you may have to rotate the diaphram for any clearance issues.

With the proper spacer they put out between 1.5 and 4 psi typically.

Questions: I replaced my old dual action fuel pump with the glass bowl single action. I have fuel from the tank, through the filter and up to the pump. The pump arm is on top of the cam and I used a spacer. Fuel from the tank is attached on the left with the arrow pointing toward the pump. Line to carb is attached to the right side of the pump with the arrow pointing away. I have pumped the pedal to try and prime and yet I get no fuel through the pump. No gas in the bowl. Nothing! Do you have any thoughts?

I would check the pump for suck/blow on the inlet and outlets by hand in a vice. I would also check to make sure there are no blockages in the tank and plenty of fuel.

Questions: I rebuilt my carb in 56 willys and now cannot get fuel to carb. Did I do something wrong in rebuild? Or does fuel pump need to be primed somehow?

You should be able to bench test it for suck and blow. You may want to check your tank for any blockages as well.

This is a single action pump, there is no vacuum hook up on it. Only inlet/outlet for fuel.

Questions: Does this come with mounting instructions? I have a 47 CJ2A, and when i got it it had a electronic fuel pump on it, and I wish to replace it with an original style one. Also is this pump ready/good to go for modern fuel?

You should put out no more than 2.5 pressure. Yes I would get an inline regulator or you can get a good used spacer to cut the pressure down.

Questions: 1) What is the pressure delivered by this pump? 2) I have a Solex on a 3A. It seems to run well without a pressure regulator. What would be the symptoms of the pressure being too high? 3) I have a lean main jet in my Solex (112), because I live at 6,000ft. If I find that the pump delivers too high of a pressure, is a leaner jet going to have the same effect essentially as a pressure regulator? I find that these inexpensive dial style pressure regulators do not work well consistently."

These pumps will put out appox 2 pounds of pressure. It is recommended that you use the original spacer place between the pump and the block as well. They function just like original. If you are stalling out or leaking or even fouling out plugs you are running with too much pressure or are too rich in the carb.

Questions: Just purchased the #119238 fuel pump. My 1951 Cj3a has a pump on with a spacer between the block and pump. Old pump is not duel action and does not have a glass bowl. Do I need this spacer with this new pump? Reviewed an article stating the 3a original pump needed the spacer. If changed to a single action do not need spacer. Is this the original type for a 1951 3a? Thanks

Yes I would put the spacer back on there. They are good to cut down on fuel pressure.

Questions: I just bought the new single action to replace the dual action on my 55 cj. I cant install the new pump because the front engine mount blocks the fuel line. I thought i would go with electric wipers and didnt need the dual.is the dual the only choice? Thanks.

You can rotate the diaphram on it and just use a 90 degree fitting on it. It should work fine for you.

Questions: Have 1948 cj2a, L134 engine, have mechanical fuel pump on with the metal bowl down, it should be up? I have in install incorrectly? Went to town and it died, would only start with choke all the way out. Has been running fine up till today for about a year. Was recommened that i put new fuel pump and a electric one as well. Your pump you have on there now is unoriginal. The way the bowl is oriented depends on the way the arm is make on the pump where it hits the camshaft. The bowl on this pump goes up like original.

Questions: I have a 1961 willys cj3b. The fuel pump works but it is leaking fuel from a small hole in the center of the pump. it is a dual action pump. Is it something I can repair or does it need replacing. If needs replacing will the single action work? I have electric wiper motors now and don't need the vacuum

Sounds like it could be a bad diaphram in your old pump. If you are running electric wipers then this one should work just fine.

Questions: 1950 Willys Jeepster 4-134 F Head, thought we just ran out of gas filled her up would not start, primed carb runs until prime is out. blew out all the fuel lines and cleaned the fuel pump screen. fuel pump is a single action with glass bowl seems to work because it fills up with gas but does bubble. cannot get fuel to carb. do I need a new fuel pump the one I have was new in 2009?

Sounds like a stuck valve or bad diaphram but its hard to say. This fuel pump will solve your problem.

Questions: My 52 cj-3a has this fuel pump #119238. It takes a long time to get it started. Will it help to put a 6 volt pump on. To pump the fuel to the carb, befor trying to start.

When you start make sure to pump the pedal a few times to get the fuel going. If you let the vehicle sit up it can be alittle hard to start.

It should help. When you start your vehicle pump the pedal a few times prior to get the fuel going and prime it.

Questions: I bought the fuel pump #119238 for my 1945 gpw. I installed it and the jeep started right up with a little primimg to the carb. The question I have is as the vehicle runs the gas in the bowl doesn't get much more then just off the bottom of the bowl and over the screen. How high is the gas suppose to get in this bowl? It seems to be running right at a stand still in the garage but before I take it out I just wanted to be sure it's correct and I won't break down.

It doesnt fill up all the way typically. The bowl will fill up alittle more or less depending on speed/pressure. Sounds like your good to go.

The glass bowl goes up and you just have to use a 90 degree fitting on this. They work great for your vehicle
