Do you have an exploded print out of the steering box? Can you also give me a list of the parts I need to get to do a overhaul on the steering system? Thank you very much,

Do you have the tool to take the steering connecting rod apart from the steering gear arm?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
A fat phillips head screw driver will do the trick.

I bought this kit but the springs for my 1955 cj5 are much shorter than the new ones. Is this correct or do I need shorter ones?

Stephen:
Same problem different jeep. I have a 1954 M38A1. The springs in the 923418 kit are too long. I had to use my one good spring and replace my broken spring by cutting the 923418 spring with a Dremel.
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Call me toll free. Ask for Mike M and I can help you.

I have an early CJ-2A, I bought this drag link repair kit. I can't fit the parts in the link. 1) The springs bottom out before I could put a cutter pin in. 2) On the back side, I put two little plates in the bottom, even with that, the steering arm interferes with the drag link side. It is as if I should put the spring in the bottom but is not what is recommended.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Call me toll free. Ask for Mike M. and I can go thru it with you. Happy to help out.

do the rubber seals and curved clips go on the outside of the drag link?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes, that is correct. They are the dust covers.

I need to no the order in which the parts to repair the drag link on a CJ-3A go together on each end

Willys Tech:
The cups go against the ball then the springs and finally the screw on caps.

I purchased the drag link repair kit for my 49 cj3a and installed it. on the end that attaches to steering box when i tighten the screw in order to get it in far enough to insert the cotter pin the knuckle is really tight, is this correct or have I overtighten it?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
The kits come with extra hardware. Make sure each end has at least 1 spring and a cupped surface against ball. Tighten but make sure not grinding.
Willys Tech:
It should be really tight but not enough to grind and cause wear on your ball.
