I bought new rear axles and a spacer. There is about a 1/8 inch from the cup to the axle on each side; there are not enough shims in the pack fill the gap. Is there a thick metal spacer that should go on each side with the shims that has been lost?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
See part number: 7351313

What are the dimension of these shims? ID, OD and what thicknesses are provided?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
OD 4 9/16 ID 2 15/16 THICK .025

Do you need the axel retainer besides these shims ? My old M38A1 didnt have ANY at all when i took it apart :(

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Typically you would have had it there originally to get your back lash set correctly.

do you have shims for the dana 53

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Sorry, those will be used only. Email mike@kaiserwillys.com for help.

Hi, will this work to reduce endplay on the flanged type axle for a '69 CJ5? It's the one that uses the SET10 bearing and collar. Or is this type of axle non-adjustable? One side has more endplay than the other on mine.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
These I believe these were really only used on tapered axles.

I have a CJ=3A, 1951, and replaced the brakes. I inadvertantly did not document the shim number and/or placement. The axle rotates freely but does not have any endplay at all. Is this an indication that I do not need any shims at al? Also, how much force should be exerted to initiate movement? Thanks for your help.

:
Endplay should be between 0.001 and 0.006.
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
You need to have endplay at your axle shaft. There is a spec to it. Please call us toll free and we can look it up for you and help out. Thanks!

will this fit a 1960 jeep pickup?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
The Willys Truck usually had a Dana 53 rear end. This really is only for Dana 41 and Dana 44 rear ends.

I have a 1954cj3 Willy that i'm changing out the outer seals on the dana rear end. I took everything apart & now I can't remember which side had the extra paper thin metal shim. PLEASE HELP :-)

Willys Tech:
Typically you try to put them back the way they were. The point of the shims is to set the load on the bearings which determines your backlash. Please call us toll free. We can help you.

I took my 48 CJ-2A rear axel apart and the shims were in different order on each side. There is one thick shim or spacer that has a smaller diameter center than the thinner other shims. Which one goes first or does it matter. One side had more shims than the other, should they both be the same or is it a matter of end play. You folks are terrific to deal with and I really appreciate it.

Willys Tech:
You typically want to put them back the way they were on there. Make sure to mark them. Usually one side will have more than the other.

do you have axle shim packs for the Timken axle?

Willys Tech:
They are the same.

I have a 48 Willys I am changing the rear axle bearings when I tighten everything down without the hub and wheels should I be able to turn the axle by hand

Willys Tech:
Yes, it should still free wheel by hand.
