Questions: Once the crown nut is tightened, should it be backed off to allow the cotter pin to be installed (in the video, the crown nut seems to spin loosely), or should it be as tight as possible? Also, after I installed the oil seal, I tapped in the yoke as far as it would go, and then installed the washer, crown nut, and cotter pin. Once that was done, however, the drive shaft felt as if it was binding against the oil seal, and it was difficult to turn by hand (in the video, the yoke seemed to turn freely by hand). Did I over-tighten the nut or tap the yoke in too far?

We usually use a nylon lock nut and torque to 65-75 lbs. If using a castle nut I would still try to maintain this spec if possible after installing cotter pin. Your mechanic manual will detail as well.

Question By: Roland Mayer on Dec 29 2016 2:24 PM
Yes, as long as you are 10 spline. Typically though you see 19 spline on that year Dana 27.
