New Original Reproduction Civilian Wheel Rim in 16"

New original reproduction 16" x 4.5 steel rim with a 5.5" bolt pattern with inner and outer safety beads. Proper bolt hole pattern for all 4wd Willys vehicles.

Also comes with a single 3/16" offset hole in the raise lug hole area of the disc that identifies rims with the safety beads.

These wheels can be used with or without tubes.

Original reproduction of the Kelsey Hayes rim. Painted in the original Dupont semi-gloss Gray.

A 7.50 is typically as big a tire as you want to go.

Do I need to sandblast these wheels before I paint them Marine Forest Green lusterless…? Or will the paint adhesion be ok as the wheels come painted from Kaiser Willys. Thank you.

They come painted but I wouldn't sandblast. You may want to just prep the surface for the color you would like.

The upper cushion is typically 2.5" and the lower cushion is typically 3" thick. The plywood is marine grade and 3/4" thick.

I have a '60 CJ-5 and the left front and i believe the right rear have left hand threads? What is the basis for this?

The drivers side typically had LH thread. The passenger side RH thread.

I dont recommend going over 7.50x16" tires because your will rub on your turn radius without a spacer.

Will the tires FIRESTONE KNOBBY TREAD TIRE 650 X 16" 4 PLY (Item # 650-663510) fit on these STEEL CIVILIAN WHEEL RIM 16" (Item # 640800)? If not, can you tell me some tires that would be more appropriate? Thanks!

Yes, these tires will fit onto the 640800 rim.

Why can't the original 16" steel wheels be used after a disk brake conversion? What are the clearance issues? Could a spacer be uses if you still wanted to have a jeep that looks original?

There can be clearance issues on the inside of the rim. We have have people use spacers too.

What is the part number for tubeless tires for these rims? i would prefer the military tread pattern.

They really dont make a NDT tread that is tubeless. Please call and ask for Mike M. I can go over a few options with you.

Can the tires for the civilian rims be tubeless running on the M38 or do they require the tube?

We have both tubeless and tube style tires for these rims. They will accept either.

Can you use these with your disc brake conversion kit?

You will have some clearance issues. You typically need to go to an aftermarket rim with the disc brake kits. They are readily available anywhere locally.

The rim in the first photo looks different than the rim in the 3rd photo. My rim looks more like the 3rd photo since the gaps look the same size. The first photo has much larger gaps. I own a CJ2A with 16in rims and i believe the are 4.5in ? Do you believe these are the same rims?

Once you try to mount a tire large than 700 you run the risk of having rubbing issues. You could possibly need to add spacers to set the tires out some. Ultimately, they will fit though. Thanks

When it says both 6x16" and 7x16" tire fit the rim, what does the 6" and 7" refer to? Is that the bead to bead width?

I have a 1946 CJ2A. I just did a front disc brake conversion using your kit #376895 and found that the 15" wheels I have will not clear the calipers. Would these 16" wheels work? If not do you have wheels that would?

Originally your CJ-2A would have had 16" rims on there. These rims will not clear the disc brake conversion. You will just need to go to an aftermarket rim with the 5 x 5.5" pattern and you should be all set.

I am installing the disc brake conversion kit ( front ) on a 1951 CJ. Problem is the original wheels will not clear the calipers. Do I use different wheels, or use a spacer between the wheels and hub to create clearance. If wheels, what application. If spacers, do you have them and longer studs available?

Willys Tech:
On some original style rims the disc kit will not clear the inner spacing. Aftermarket rims have to be used then.

I have just acquired a 1961 Willys pickup. The original wheel rims have been replace with a wider rim and tires which make turning unwieldy. I would like to go back to the original rim size and tire which I believe has a narrower footprint and will turn much easier. The rims used on that vehicle are different. If you have the original hub caps you will need those specific rims.

Most CJ-5's have 15 rims but 16 were always an option. You see it both ways. Either will work. I prefer the 16.

When using your Firestone NDT or STA NDT 6.00 X 600 tire, is it necessary to use tire flaps or beadlocks to protect the tubes? If so, where would you buy those parts?

What color were the rims on a 1961 CJ5? I have seen old photos with white rims and others that appear to match the body. If the answer is white, do you know what paint code was white?

They were a number of different colors. Typically there was a cream color used if it was white.
