I suppose you could lay it under the straps. you would have extra material most likely as spare.

They really just line the bottom of the tank. We lay them equal distance from one another. its just trying to create a buffer so your not metal on metal contact.

This one is a welt material. The other kit is a felt material. Both are interchangable.

They are a water resistant welting. Like original.
