Questions: In my gasket kit from the machine shop for a 1948 cj2a it came with shims for the new oil pump. How do I measure the clearence to know how many shims I need to use?
Question By: Roy on Jun 19 2013 12:00 AM
That determines your oil pressure. When shims are present, removing shims will decrease pressure. This adjustment will change the pressure at higher speeds but not at idle speed. Safe minimum pressure is 6 lb at idle and 20 lb at 20000 rpm.

For the engine you typically want to use Non-detergent oil - 30 or 40 weight oil and it should take about 4-5 quarts. Thanks!

Questions: Hi, I just bought a 1959 cj5 and the previous owner had said that he had removed the L-head engine to rebuild it but hadn't finished it. Now I was under the impression that the cj5's only ever had the F-head engines in this year, and the cj3B had the L-head engine. Is this correct or did I just misread something at some point?
Question By: Anonymous on Dec 19 2010 12:00 AM
The CJ-3B and CJ-5 always had the 4-134 F head motor. The 4-134 L head was used on CJ-3A and earlier jeeps.
Answer By: Willys Tech on Dec 19 2010 12:00 AM
They only had a 4-134 F in a CJ-5. The CJ-3B is the same. They used a 4-134 L on the earlier Willys.
Answer By: Admin on Mar 31 2017 5:17 PM
Both CJ-3B and CJ-5 used the 4-134 F head. The earlier Willys used the 4-134 L head.
Answer By: Admin on Apr 18 2017 10:13 AM
The CJ-5 and the CJ-3B both originally had the 4-134 F head engine. The early CJ-3A had the 4-134 L head engine. Thanks

Questions: I have a 1950 M38 with a transplant 4-134 F head, would this be the manual for everything except the engine?
Question By: Eric on Nov 16 2010 12:00 AM
Yes, it will cover it including the 4-134 L and F head motor.
Answer By: Willys Tech on Nov 16 2010 12:00 AM
Yes that would be the closest manual we have for that vehicle.
Answer By: Admin on Apr 12 2017 7:15 PM
This manual will actually cover the 4-134 F. The only thing it won't cover for the M38 is the voltage if you have the original 24 volts. If you've gone to 12 volts, you will be all set. Thanks!
