They have a different wheel base so there would be some hurdles to doing this.

Yes, that is correct. It is a side fill under the drivers seat. There is the filler hole and housing just behind the door opening like original.

The CJ-3B used a few different version dashes. The recess has to be made.

They have different wheel base and length. I would put a CJ-3B body on a CJ-3B chassis and a CJ-5 body on a CJ-5 chassis.

That is correct, you have to cut your holes out. Early and late CJ-3B's used differnet dash configuration.
