What point is a master cylinder not rebuildable? What should I be looking for?

If the bore of the master cylinder is not smooth and has notching or discoloration, I would not try to rebuild. It has to be able to seal the Dot 3 fluid properly.

If your master cylinder is aluminum its not original. Someone has replaced it with something. I would go with 805223 and replace whole thing then.

rebuilding a 1951 cj3a. does this master cyl. come with a brake light switch?

647801 is the part number for the brake light switch. You'll also need the outlet bolt, fitting and crush washers too if your not reusing your old ones. We have those as well.

I ordered a master cylinder repair kit and all the parts are there and look the same as what I removed from my master cylinder. Except it is a smaller diameter. This is for a cj3a. What might be the issue? I have a Wagner Lockheed m/c

My 1949 CJ-2A has a Wagner Lockheed FE-3111 master cylinder which evidently was on early 1951 M38 Jeeps. Does the master cylinder kit you offer fit this maser cylinder? Thank you!

Does this repair kit include the push rod seal (gasket). My push rod gasket or seal going into my master cylinder is not holding pressure.

While using the repair kit, I noticed my original set up did not include the tapered rubber washer. Would this washer go in between the metal washer and the piston assembly? Snap ring - metal washer - rubber washer - piston assembly? Thanks.
