I think they are 3/8 but have never take a measurement on one. I would just take one of your old ones out and match it up locally.

I have the rear axle that divides into the left and right halfs with the gasket between them. What axle is this one and what gasket do I need?

Sounds like you have a Willys Truck with the Timken rear end. That gasket you have to make or just use some sealant on.
