What is meant by fits M38 with modification

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
The YS for the M38 originally was a side draft. So you just have to add an air horn to it. We have all the parts you need.

Looking for the cast bracket that the hand throttle and choke cable mount to. Any suggestions?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Email mike@kaiserwillys.com

Is there a port for distributor ported vacuum?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
On these vehicles I would port that off the plugs ontop your intake manifold.

What is the distance (center to center) of the flange? What solex flange gasket number does it use?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
2-3/8" center to center like original. 648977

willy this fit a 1962 hurricane 6 cylinder?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
This will only fit the 4 cylinder 134L head. You are after 644436

Carb is on a 48 cj2. Runs fine, idles good within 1-2 minutes after start. The choke doesn't seem to do its job if it sits for a week. Crank it a few times and give it a shot of ether, starts right up. Choke seems to be working at 1/2 pull after start to keep running. What's with no start on full choke?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
You should have your idle set 475-500 rpm. At idle once fully warm and no longer choked your engine should be generating 20" of vacuum draw. If its not you may have a vacuum leak or need to check cold clearances/compression. Email mike@kaiserwillys.com to help.

CJ-2A Engine appears to be running super-rich. I pulled the plugs and they are all the sooty. Some suggested a fuel regulator - do you have any ideas? Thanks

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes and check your idle air mixture screw and that you have a good spark.

I ordered the Solex carb. It does not mount to my intake manifold, 1948 CJ2A. The carb on my jeep is a Carter YF. Any suggested solution?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
You have an unoriginal manifold. You need part number: 923808 if you have a YF.

Is this ready for ethanol fuel?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
It is but I would never use ethanol fuel. It is terrible for your tank and fuel system. Use only NON-ethanol. You can find it anywhere that sells gas near water and boats.

At idle, It won't run without the choke halfway pulled out. Any ideas? Of course, it smells running very rich. :) Any ideas? Thanks! ~P.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
I would check what your vacuum draw is at idle. Email mike@kaiserwillys.com more vehicle information to help.

IS THE SPACER THAT THE CARBURATOR SETS ON THE SAME FOR BOOTH THE SOLEX AND THE ORIGINAL YS 637 A ?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
You could use on either.

When it says it will fit the M38 with modification, what exactly does that mean?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Youll need a rubber seal and air horn to make the 90 degree bend. We have both no problem.

can i get the Solex altitude corrector for this model and would it fit in the engine bay?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
If your at high altitude your best bet is to use a higher octane fuel.

I got a 1953 willys pickup truck 4x4 with the go devil four cylinder. Will this carburetor fit to replace the old one. Thanks

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
If you have a WO carter yes. Please email mike@kaiserwillys.com some pictures of your vehicle and carburetor and I can help.

Will this fit my 51 M38?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:

I have a 1948 Willys Truck with a 4-134L engine. Will the Solex carb - #923806 fit my engine?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
923808 is probably what you need due to mounting on the manifold.

What is the thread size of the banjo fitting to connect a fuel line to the carburetor?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
You may just need a 1/2-20 MALE TO ¼ FEMALE fitting.

Could any of these carburetors be used with a blow thru setup?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Please email mike@kaiserwillys.com and we can try to help out.

I had purchased the Solex Carb for a Willy's MB 1943 flat head go devil engine. Should I use the diffuser gasket that is used when using an original Carter WO Carb? Or should I leave the diffuser gasket out?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
We usually try to use them if available.

Does this come with the a6357 gasket with the v or do I need to add that to my order?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
You would have to add that separate. It comes with the flat base gasket.

I have a 1950 3A with l-head. It has no carburator, fuel pump, or lines What do you recommend I order for gaskets, air filter, pump, connectors/lines to go along with this new carb? Thanks for any input.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:

Does this carburetor have a choke??? We installed a new choke cable and dash control in my 42 MB, then took the air cleaner off the carburetor and could not see any choke butterfly!!!...The cable seems to activate something near the base of the carburetor. I believe the vehicle has a Solex carburetor.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes, there is an internal choke. Please email mike@kaiserwillys.com to help.

I have a 1944 Wiilys Jeep ...i need a carburetor for it - would you have one?

Hi I've got a late 60's Hobart 250 Welder with the cj2a Industrial engine, I was wondering if this carburetor will fit up okay on the Industrial cj2a.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Please email mike@kaiserwillys.com your carburetor information and we can confirm.

On the Solex 923806 carburetor, is there a way to not use the banjo bolt setup and just install a nipple fitting?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes, you could just get a nipple with a male end and thread it into the banjo fitting.

What modification is needed to install on my 50-52 M38

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
You would need part number: 641918, A17318, and A17318-Clamp. That is the air horn, seal and clamp to make the 90 degree bend the original YS carter made.

I got a Solex carburetor from you several years ago, I have got it out of adjustment, can you give me a few pointers on how to adjust it ? Thanks, Jack

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
https://cj3b.info/Tech/SolexTips.html This may help. Please let me know if you need further help.

Hi, I recently ordered this carb as well as a carburetor to manifold gasket. Upon attempting to mount the gasket as well as carb have a different spacing than my manifold. The bolts on the manifold are about 1/2 in. wider apart than the carb mounting holes. I’m new to Willys and have been informed I have a CJ2A.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Sounds like you have an unoginal intake manifold off a WIllys Truck / Station which took a YF not a WO. Email mike@kaiserwillys.com to help.

Hi, I’m interested in purchasing this carburetor, but I currently have the dry air filter element (647789). Will it still fit this carb?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes, it will work for this carburetor.

How long and what's the warrantee for the Solex 923806 and is the warrantee handled through your shop?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
We will warranty a year out and never leave a customer hanging. We take care of everything ourselves.

Hi. I have a 1957 FC-150 with the F134 Hurricane original engine. I would like to buy a new carburetor for it... What one do you recommend? Thank you....

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
923808 is a good option.

Hi Mike How are you ? Does this Carburetor have a repair kit ?

Willys Tech:
SK13 is the part number for it.

Mike, both the linked docs here and various boards recommend installation of an inline fuel pressure regulator, delivering between 1-3/4 and 2 pounds of fuel pressure. On installation of the Solex on my L134, the mixture doesn't seem to be able to be leaned properly - it always runs too rich.

Willys Tech:
The problem most people run into is that they are missing the original spacer between the fuel pump and the block. It is part number: 866236

What is the rebuild kit for this carb?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
See part number: SK13

I have a1952 CJ3A it will start ok and run great at an idle and up to about half throttle, then just wont go higher, starts to stall, I have sprayed stating fluid in the carb but it wont increase the rpms, I have a good fuel pump, and a extra carb that I have tried and still the same result, I have the correct gasket for the carp Thick and with the Ventura in it.I have checked voltage, compression, timing, and the advance inside the distributor, I'm at a loss, what would you suggest?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
At 450 rpm you should have 20" of vacuum draw. If you can check that and let us know.

is there a return policy on these?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes, just contact us and we'll get you a RMA number to send any return back. https://www.kaiserwillys.com/customer-service Thanks

Is there an AIR HORN TO CARBURETOR SEAL (HOSE) needed? If so, do you sell it?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
A17318 is the part number.

I have a 1946 CJ2A just got the solex carb. Looking over all looks good. I have a vac advance on distributor. Did not notice a vac port on carb. Am I missing something?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
You should have a port on your intake manifold you can run it off of that.

Is there a pancake filter that will work with this carb? I have a M38 and don't want to use the oil bath system.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
647789 is the dry filter.

I have this Solex carb on an M-38 with a L-134. Since it was new, it seems to lose the fuel in the reservoir after it sits, even for a short time, and needs to be primed. This involves carrying a gas can, unstrapping the windshield, raising it, unlatching the hood, raising it, removing the air horn from the carb and dumping gas down it. The priming has to be repeated several times depending upon how long it has been sitting, until the bowl fills up and it continues to run. Then, everything has to be put back. After it clears out the excess gas from priming, it runs great, although it always needs some choke. Is there a way to remedy this, or to add a primer like aircraft use, which can be operated from the driver's seat?

Tom:
On mine, the float sticks since new. Tap the carb body then crank it, bowl will fill and run.
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
I would make sure you are pumping your pedal a bit before starting and during start up as well. Not enough to flood but get motor running. You will always need to choke a cold engine.

I have got a Solex replacement carburetor for my 4-134L engine. When trying to start it flood. Manifold get stuck with lot of liquid gasoline and engine die. All settings at specs. Compresson check give 95-110psi. Vacum is about 300. What to do?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
You may be putting out too much fuel pressure. Please email mike@Kaiserwillys.com and we can help you.

Aloha Mike- When I hit the link for the "Tips & FAQ" it gives me code symbols - see below. Anyway, you could fix that or e-mail me the doc? Is it something on my end? Mahalo ‹ZksÛÆ’ý+ºÊ¶ªHP$%%’%¥$_Û‘cÇ*[µ®»_n !

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
It is working on our end. I would check your browser to make sure it is up to date. It just opens a link to: http://cj3b.info/Tech/SolexTips.html

trying to adapt the solex to my model a.what is the distance center to center of the stud holes and the diameter if the throut

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
2-3/8" center to center like the Carter WO

Will this fit my 64 CJ5 to replace the Carter YH? The Carter pokes through the hood of the CJ3A body.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
This is a replacement carburetor that fits on the flat head, four cylinder motor. Typically replaces the WO carburetor. Thanks

On the item: NEW REPLACEMENT SOLEX CARBURETOR FITS 41-53 MB, GPW, CJ-2A, 3A, M38 WITH 4-134 L ENGINE 50-52 M38 (with modification) Does this item include in the order the "modification" parts? I have a '52 M-38 Willys.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Really you would just need to set up your seal and air horn since it is a down draft carburetor compared to the original side draft YS carb. We have the parts you need.

Where can I find a manual for these solex carburetors?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
See link above. We have a tech guide in item description.

I have a 1946 Willys cj2a. 134 F head engine....wll this work for my jeep?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
If you have the F head its unoriginal and would want the 923808 - the CJ2A used the L head originally and the 923806 would be the one for you.

For my 1947 CJ2A: Should I just use a plain gasket with the Solex carburetor, or use the special gasket with V-bracket that I used with the original WO carburetor?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
You should use the V-based gasket (A6357) with the Solex carburetor. Thanks!

my question is fuel flooding problem .I have replaced the wo carb on my l134 with a solex carb I also have electric fuel pump after the engine has been running a while and you turn it off the engine wants to flood how can I correct this problem

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
If you have an electric fuel pump its probably putting out too much pressure. We have pressure regulators part number: 12804 that should stop the issue in your Willys

I plan on using this carburetor for my M-38. What modifications or additional parts are needed?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
The only thing you'll really have to add is the air horn (641918) to give the carburetor the 45 degree bend. Thanks

i purchased the solex carb for my 1946 willys cj2a. i installed it and it ran fine everything worked as it should. After 12 hours there is no fuel left in the carb. i cannot figure out what the problem is. I have taken it to four professional mechanics and a local who worked on these while in the military and all of which say it has been hooked up correctly. So i had kaiser willys send me a replacement thinking it was a faulty carb but after installing the second one I am now facing the same problem. I cannot figure out what the problem is. I have put a new fuel pump in and i am getting plenty of pressure from it.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
I would check the fuel pump first. Call us toll free and we can try to help you troubleshoot too.

Do you carry replacement throttle and choke cable bracket on the carburetor? My bracket was brittle and broke while cables. It's for a cj2a carb.

Willys Tech:
You should have a WO Cater. We may be able to help you with used on this.

I have a CJ2A Willys Jeep with a 134F. We installed new Solex Carb and engine floods out and files sparks plugs. Can I have to much fuel psi ? What else can I try?

Willys Tech:
You should be between 1.5 and 4 pounds of pressure.

Do you carry jets for these? I live at 6000ft above sea level and would need to rejet it.

Willys Tech:
Sorry I don't have different jets for this.

I bought a cj2 that came with a Solex carburetor on it. I started it this past weekend and have obvious troubles with the needle valve adjustment as it runs very rich.nI tried the cj3 tech page but it does not give any detail as to what factory setting should be or how to set it. Can anyone here help? Thanks

Willys Tech:
I would turn it all the way in then back it off a turn and a half. Fine tune from there.

I have a new solex carb on a l134 engine with fuel pressure regulator set at 2 ,i also have a inline electric fuel pump. my question is why does the engine load uo when you try to acceralate

Willys Tech:
I would double check your timing and make sure you put out no more than 4 pounds of pressure.

is the lever on the carbuerator up or down for the choke to work.

Willys Tech:
You pull the choke out and the lever goes up.

I have a 1948 CJ2A will my airhorn wok with this carburetor?

Willys Tech:
Yes, these are designed to take the original air horn.

Is free shipping available for this item outside of the United States?

I have what I'm told is a 48 Jeepster in he shop, am relatively certain that I have a go-devil engine. Is this the proper carb? Will I need anything to adapt etc...? Thanks in advance.

Willys Tech:
These are only for the vehicles above. We can help though if you send in your old Carter carburetor.

I have a CJ-3A that is backfiring and dying. If I keep the engine revved it stays running but you can feel the occasional bump of an almost-backfire. Distributor was replaced by a mechanic about 3 yrs ago, replaced the spark plugs yesterday. Tried adjusting the carb and while it helped the roughness of the revved engine, as soon as you let off the gas it backfires and dies. Was running fine until about a month ago. I am no mechanic, learning all this as I go. Suggestions?

Willys Tech:
I could be a fuel delivery problem. You may want to check your float. I would also try advancing the timing to see if that does the trick as well.

Hello, I have been looking for a replacement carburetor for a 4-134 in a 53 cj3b which has a 57 under carrage. I have a clearance problem, The carb which was on it was a holly and it drowned the engine, I have 6.5 between the manifold and the hood. I tryed the other Solex and it was too tall, The holly with the air horn is 6.25 tall, does the riser come off this Solex carb? Would it work?

Willys Tech:
The 923808 should be the right carb for your 4-134 F head engine.

I am using a electric fuel pump. What is the recommended pump pressure to use with these kind of carbs?

Willys Tech:
You want to be less than 4 pounds when under way.

Is there an option to purchase this carb with linkage or is the linkage available seperate?

Willys Tech:
The linkage is availble good used. Please call us toll free.

My 1945 GPW did not come with a carb., it was missing. I purchased a Solex from you and need to know how to choke it. Does the lever go up or down to choke. I don't see a flap inside and can't see what its doing.

Willys Tech:
You just hook your choke cable up to the bracket and thats pretty much it. The function is internal on it.

Will I need any additional hardware with the carburetor? I have the steel line coming off the fuel pump to a rubber hose which connects to steel line coming off of carburetor.

Willys Tech:
You just have to hook up your existing linkage and lines to it and you are all set.

Does this solex carb come with throttle and choke connections?

Willys Tech:
Yes that is correct it does.

Will the Solex Carburetor fit a 1945 willys MB jeep engine.

Willys Tech:
Yes that is correct. It is a direct replacement for Carter WO's.

I'm creating my own high flow manifold for my go devil. Would it help the performance of my engine with this carb.

Willys Tech:
Im sure it wouldnt hurt:)

Do you have a good used carburetor bowl for a WO carb? If so how much? I have a rebuildable WO carb, but the bowl section does'nt suit me. Thank you -

Willys Tech:
Please call us toll free. We may have a core to help out.

Will these work for a replacement on a Willys Flathead 4 cylinder used in a military generator? Will the governor linkage, throttle linkage and choke linkage hook up correctly? Will the air duct for the remote mounted oil bath air cleaner work? Someone told me the threads for the fuel inlet and other things on these are metric and not SAE. Thanks.

Willys Tech:
This is a replacement for the original Carter WO they used on Willys. As long as the carburetor on yours meets those specs then yes. Please call us toll free. We can help answer any questions you might have too.

this carb says it will work for a m38 with modification wat kind of modificatio will i need

Willys Tech:
All you really need is the air horn part number: 641918 & A17318 to make your 90 degree bend that the original YS had.

Does this come with the gasket between the carb and intake manifold?

Willys Tech:
Yes

Did the 1946 cj2a originally have a carter or a solex carburetor, or were both used during this time. If so, how do I know which one should be on my jeep. Thanks.

Willys Tech:
Originally all CJ-2A's used a Carter WO. This is a direct replacement for that Carter WO carburetor. They are plug and play.

Is this carb made by Solex,or someone else?

Willys Tech:
This is made by Solex.

How long does it take to replace an old carb with this one?

Willys Tech:
We typically ship same day and this is a direct replacement, plug and play.
