Questions: Hello, I'm looking for a replacement ring and pinion for my 53 CJ3A, the rear axle ID leads me to believe its a Dana 44. The original parts are both labeled Salisbury 43-8. I ordered a set from another vendor and those parts are labeled Dana 43-8, unfortunately the pinion is slightly larger and the ring gear does not line up with the bolt pattern on the gear case. I'm wondering if the Salisbury and Dana models were slightly different and where I might be able to locate the right parts? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello: I think that you have a DANA 41 diff, not a 44. Salisbury rings are more common in these axles and are normally found on pre 1951 Jeeps but nor so differents from DANA spares. Ring and pinion of 44 are bigger than 41 and have a different bolt pattern, because gear case are different too....

Questions: My friends are buying willys jeeps, and we are curious as to the axle ratio. Where do I look on the axle housing and what numbers am I looking for to tell the ratio?
Question By: Ted on May 29 2013 12:00 AM
It is usually stamped on the pumpkin housing. Or you can count the number of teeth on your ring and the number of teeth on the pinion. You can also get the numbers stamped on the r&p itself and we can trace it and tell you.
