They are not interchangeable. The main thing is how they mount. 2 clearance holes v. 1 threaded/1unthreaded hole.

Yes, we use 90 weight gear oil.

Questions: I'm servicing on the front axel of my 1946. My father taught me this in 1964! I have forgot. Has been setting for 25 years. I guess I need to drain old oil, then I think we filled until I could feel with my finger? What type of oil, 90 weight? Thank you for putting up with my ignorance. Luther park

Yes, fill to the fill plug level. We use 90 weight.

You just put motor oil in there 10W30 in the bottom clamp off cup and fill to the marked fill level on the cup.
