I installed the new seal with the lip out and got destroyed in the first ride. I think the shaft key was against the rubber on both sides, I ordered 2 new seals( $75+) do I need to mesure how far the key goes in?

Does the lip on this seal (Item 935612) face inward or outward?

The lip goes out. The plate sits flush on the backing plate.
