I've heard that the 9 tooth and 10 tooth starters are not interchangeable from people who bought a 9 tooth to replace their 10 tooth. Do you sell any 10 tooth starters?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
You can absolutely use 9 or 10 tooth drive starters due to the way the ring gear teeth are cut. If you have further questions, please give us a call.

Would the old bushing keep the starter and flywheel teeth from lining up correctly?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
If you dont replace your old bushing that is worn you can get some shaft wobble for sure.

Hi, I am just checking to see if anyone can help me with a problem I am having with my 47 CJ2a starter. I replaced the bad starter with a new 12 volt starter when I rebuilt the engine 3 or so years ago. Due to other issues I wasn't able to use it much until last year. I went to a rally last fall and where there were some deep puddles and the starter jammed shortly after. I pulled it checked the ring gear and cleaned the bendex and it seemed to work fine until I got it out this spring. It looked clean so I chalked it off to a weak battery. I pulled it and used a light grease on it and the ring gear still is ok. I thought it could be the original foot starter switch and put a solenoid in and it jammed again. I have been wrenching for over 40 years but I haven't worked on this type of bendex. Has anyone had this problem on a CJ2a? Any suggestions? HELP!!! Paul

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
If im understanding what you wrote sounds like it got submerged by mud maybe. Email mike@Kaiserwillys.com

Do I leave the copper sleeve on when installing?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
That is the bushing to be pressed in.

I have ten teeth on my old starter will this work with my Jeep

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes, as long as you have a 97 tooth flywheel with the MZ4113. They used both 9 and 10 tooth.

If I install this new starter on a 46 CJ2A do I need to replace the bushing in the bell housing? If so, how do you get the old bushing out?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
It is recommended if worm. You can use a small socket and a vise to press out.

I have an early 1955 CJ5 with f-head engine. It has been converted to 12 volt and still has the foot starter. Will this work for me? Thanks

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
This starter is for a CJ-2A and MB. Please email mike@kaiserwillys.com your starter motor numbers and I can get you fixed up. Thanks!

How many gears are on the bendix??? And where does the bracket in the front mount to?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
9 tooth

I have a 1946 cj2 with a 9 tooth starter. Will a 10 tooth starter work?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
They change the diameter of the gear so it will. They had both 9 and 10 tooth. This is a direct replacement for the MZ-4113 starter.

Does the metal band that that hides the windings/contacts and wraps around the starter stay on the starter during normal use? Or should it be removed and discarded?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Leave it on. You dont want dirt/contaminants getting in there.

What are the approximate measurements? Someone who owned my '47 CJ-2A before me put in a different seat frame in the passenger side so I need to make sure it will fit.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
The overall dimensions are approx 18 x 15.5" of the pan.

I have a L 134 engine with a 124 theeth count witch 12 volt starter should I get?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
We need more information from you. Please email mike@kaiserwillys.com and we can ask you some questions and help out.

Just bought a 48 cj2a 12volt i have a dead MZ 4172 3J What do you have to replace it? Do you sell field coils, brushes etc?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
That would be unoriginal to a 2A. Please call us toll free and we can figure out what you need. Thanks!

My starter on my 46 cj2a gets extremely hot and drains my battery. The system was converted to 12 volt. The only markings on the starter are PS79A. I have the L type flat top 4 engine. What starter do I need?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Sounds like you may be running a 12 volt system on a 6 volt starter. Please call us toll free and we can help.

I have an L 4-134 that came with a 6v MZ4113 starter and the flywheel tooth count is 124. Will this 12v version work with the current 124 tooth flywheel or do I need to swap out a 129 tooth ring gear? Also, do you have a service available to send my 6v core in and have it converter to a 12v? Thank you

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
An MZ4113 starter will only work properly with a 97 tooth flywheel count. Please call us toll free and we can help you sort it out. Thanks!

How many teeth needed on a starter to work with a 124 tooth fly ring Thanks

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
It is a combination of tooth count and diameter. Please call us toll free and we can help you match up to what you need and ask you some questions.
