The seal on my 49 Pickup is not open on one side like this one. It is pressed into a cone shaped cover that bolts to the differential with a thick metal spacer in between with two gaskets, one on the differential side and one on the cover side. Does the spring side face the pinion? Also, do you have the gaskets, or do I need to make them?

This is an updated neoprene seal improvement. The spring goes towards the inside.

What do you mean by clamshell rear end? I have this type of seal in my M 38 is it the right one?

This is for the clamshell style rear end used on the 47-53 TRUCK. The M38 used a Dana 44 part number 639265.
