Fits 41-71 MB, GPW, CJ-2A, 3A, 3B, 5, Truck

Part # 716100

New TightSteer Sector Shaft Tensioner

Free play reducer for Ross Steering Boxes.

The TightSteer is an aftermarket devise that is designed to reduce freeplay in steering systems that is common in Willys.

The TightSteer is a spring-loaded mechanism that replaces the sector shafts' set screw and provides constant pressure thru the entire rotation of the worm gear. It reduces free play and the dreaded 'Willys Wobble".

For 7/8" sectors shafts found on all these vehicles

No drilling or modifiction is required. It is a bolt on system.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Please email mike@Kaiserwillys.com what measurements your looking for.

The Installation guide says the #100 fits a list of vehicles including the M38 with 7/16 threads. I assume this the #100 since you list some of the vehicles in the #100 list from the Installation guide?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Give us a call so we can sort out your confusion. Thank you!

Can you still get part #200 for 1967 and later CJ5 with the V6?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:

I don’t see the M38 on the list yet I do see the civilian equivalent CJ3. Will this work on an M38 (1950-1952)?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
The M38/M38A1 boxes are different than the CJs. Give us a call and we can try to help you out on that.

Will this fit and work on a 1971 CJ-5 with a V-6?

Will this or any of the other tight steers work on my 52 m38a1?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Sorry, no. They dont make a kit for the M38/A1.

I just rebuilt my steering gear box and used the tight steer on it. I only feel pressure when the tightsteer is screwed all the way down and then my sector shaft moves in and out of the house at about 1/4 to a 1/2 inch. Is this normal or is there an underlying issue?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Sounds like you need to check your gear box for excessive play/wear and the bushings/shims in there too.

Will this fit on a 1970 CJ5 with a 4 cylinder hurricane engine.

Willys Tech:
That is part number: 716200A for the 1968 CJ-5 with the V6-225. This is the proper part number for it with the 4-134 engine with 7/8 shaft.

when you install the tightsteer can you do it on the jeep without removing the gear box and or the fender. does it come with new gaskets and what is the chances of little or no success.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes, they used the 7/8" sector shaft.
Willys Tech:
It is recommened to remove it. It is alot easier to install.
